While times may be strange right now, with all students taking remote classes and slightly losing our grasp on reality, there is hope. President Kelly has taken a proactive role in bombarding our emails with messages that seek to inform, comfort, and offer guidance in these troubling times.
On Thursday morning, a different kind of message from the President appeared in our inboxes. This one bore the typical “FAU ANNOUNCEMENT,” but the subject line was strange. It read “A Message from the President- Just some thoughts and ideas, I guess #1.” The email read:
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, all I’ve had is nothing but time to reflect. I find myself thinking about you---my students--- and how blind I’ve been to all of your individual aspirations, desires, and fears. Shortly after we were all asked to stay home, I began pouring over all of your files: reading your transcripts, essays, social media posts, etc. All of this in an attempt to figure you all out, and I must say I think I’ve got a pretty good grasp on all of you. So this brings me to my idea. It’s kind of silly, I know, but I would like to send a TBH to all of you. Of course, only if you’re comfortable with that. So, the ball is in your court, all you have to do is reply to this email with “YES” and I’ll shoot you my thoughts about, well, you :). I leave you with this quote from Timothy Keller: ‘Love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws. Truth without love is harshness; it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it.’”
We at the Hoot don’t know about you guys, but this reporter was never really a fan of the “like for tbh” craze back in the day. All it would entail is some bitch saying how nice you are when in reality the fucker didn’t even notice you were in the same homeroom for four fucking years. Nevertheless, this is a strange but touching move from Presiden Kelly, and this reporter is looking forward to receiving my tbh from our honest king, lord, and savior.
